Effective October 11, 2026 · PARTTAG LLC
PARTTAG helps people find auto parts that fit their vehicle. This page explains, in plain language, what information the PARTTAG service handles and why.
Information you give us
- Vehicle and part details you type into the search form (year, make, model, engine, part name or number, VIN).
- Photos and barcodes you choose to scan. A photo you take of a VIN plate or a part is sent to our server only to be read. It is not kept as part of a user profile, and PARTTAG has no user accounts.
Services that process your information
- Image reading. To read a VIN or identify a part from a photo, the image is sent to a third-party AI service (Anthropic's Claude API) and the result is returned to you.
- Smarter search. To improve your search experience, PARTTAG uses AI (Anthropic's Claude) to fix spelling and to double-check that an eBay listing is really the part you asked for. For this it reads the part name you typed, your vehicle's year, make, model and engine, and the public titles of eBay listings. Your VIN is never included.
- VIN decoding. A VIN you enter or scan is sent to the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) public vehicle database to look up the vehicle's year, make, model and engine.
- Listing search. The vehicle and part you enter are sent to eBay's search service to find listings that eBay marks as fitting your vehicle. The results are shown to you at that moment. PARTTAG does not store eBay listing data.
- Barcode lookup. A barcode number you scan is sent to a product-lookup service to identify the product.
Saved vehicles
If you use "Save" for a vehicle, it is stored only in your own web browser on your own device. PARTTAG does not receive or keep that list, and you can remove it any time with "Forget Selected" or by clearing your browser's site data. In the same way, the app remembers the last vehicle you searched for (and its VIN, if you entered one) in your own browser, so it is ready next time. That also stays on your device and is not sent to PARTTAG.
Cookies
PARTTAG uses a small cookie to remember that you have entered the private-beta access code. Retailers you click through to, such as eBay, may set their own cookies, including affiliate tracking cookies, under their own policies.
Affiliate links
Some links to sellers are affiliate links, and PARTTAG may earn a commission on purchases made after clicking them, at no extra cost to you. Purchases happen entirely on the seller's site. PARTTAG never sees or handles your payment information.
What we do not do
- We do not sell your personal information.
- We do not run advertising networks on PARTTAG.
- We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
Security and retention
Photos are processed in memory to produce a result. Our server may keep ordinary technical logs (such as request times and error messages) for troubleshooting and abuse prevention, including protection against automated scraping.
